About us

Amigos is an online learning initiative connecting 10-12-year-old students from Uganda and the Netherlands. Through regular interactive activities aligned with both countries' curricula, we help children explore global topics, break stereotypes early, and build lifelong friendships across continents.

Our goal is to bridge the geographical and cultural gaps, encouraging dialogue, and promoting a sense of global community and fostering a cross-cultural understanding and friendship among kids in schools from Uganda and the Netherlands through an online platform.

Founding Story

The Amigos Project was born from a shared vision and a journey that inspired us to think differently about connection, culture, and giving back. What started as an experience in Tanzania soon became the beginning of something much bigger.

Children embracing during a visit in Africa

It all started in 2023 with a journey to Tanzania. For us, visiting Africa was something we had wanted to do for a long time, inspired by its people, culture, and way of life.

During our time there, we visited an orphanage and saw firsthand how much support was needed. While fundraising for the orphanage, we began to realize that we wanted to do more than provide one-time help. We started asking ourselves how we could create something more sustainable and meaningful.

At the same time, the experience made us think about children back home and how important it is for them to learn about different cultures from an early age. We wanted to find a way to bring these two worlds together: helping children discover and understand other cultures while creating ongoing support for meaningful projects and volunteer initiatives.

Our work

How do we do this?

In an increasingly interconnected world, it's crucial for children to develop a global perspective early on. This program provides them with the opportunity to understand, appreciate, and respect diverse cultures, preparing them for a future where collaboration and cultural competence are essential skills. Children often develop stereotypes based on limited exposure. This program aims to break down these stereotypes by allowing kids to interact with peers from different backgrounds, challenging preconceived notions and fostering a more inclusive mindset. Connecting with peers from a different part of the world helps children develop social and emotional skills. They learn to navigate differences, express themselves effectively, and build relationships, contributing to their overall well-being.

Our vision
